The Exotic is the
shorthaired counterpart to the Persian. The
Exotic is medium to large in size (mostly in our days the Exotics are medium of size), the
body is short and solid (called cobby). Legs are short and strong. Bone structure is
rather solid.
The head must be round (also when viewed in profile), the skull is broad with a well
rounded forehead and dome.
The ears are small and rather deep placed.
The nose is very short and must be broad and has a stop between the eyes, the nose has a
deep break between the eyes when the parents originate from Peke-Face Persians.
The eyes are large and round and set wide apart (to give that certain baby look). Eye
colour is different in different coat colours: Orange eyes are found in solid colours,
tabbies, white, smoke, bicolour. Blue eyes are found in white, bicolours and colourpoints
(but bare in mind that the blue of a colourpoint is genetically different from the blue in
a white cat!). Green eyes are found in black/blue silver shaded and silver tabbies.
The jaws are broad, bite must be level.
The coat is soft and short, but not too short, when you hold the coat between 2 fingers
the hairs must stand over them at least 1,5 - 2cm, with dense undercoat. The coat is not
permitted to ly flat to the body, it must stand up (because of the dense undercoat !).
The tail is short, thick and looks like those brushes you use for cleaning bottles, the
tail tip is rounded.

History
The
Exotic was bred in North America when breeders made crossings between Persians and
American Shorthairs. The breed got its own name in the mid-1960s to differentiate it from
the American Shorthair and keep the American Shorthair free from the longhair gene.
Breeders used also British Shorthair and Burmese (American typed Burmese which has a
rounded head with a break and a compact body).
The Exotic was recognized first 1967 by CFA.
Exotics are called Persians in pajamas, because unlike the long coat of the
Persians might disguise some faults, with the Exotic what you see is what
you get. |

Temperament
The Exotic is like a little Panda Bear, quiet and very affectionate to
people, rather little talkative. Everything is done cautiously, but yet they
are very alert, they are not seriously in a hurry. They make ideal pets for
less active owners as well as for rather busy households.

Grooming
The cuddly Exotic shares the qualities of the Persians, without requiring
constant and excessive grooming. Their coat does not tangle and is not
getting knotted. Their coat should be lightly combed from time to time to
get rid of old and dead hairs. |
